    Sacramento Business Journal: Dyer founded her biotechnology company in Placerville with only $9,000. Four years later StemExpress, which provides human blood, bone marrow and tissue for medical research, ranks No. 363 on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing private companies, with 1,315 percent growth over a three-year period.

    Sacramento Business Journal: Wong co-founded ViVita Technologies Inc. in 2012 to help eliminate the shortage of donor organs and tissues by generating off-the-shelf replacements from animal sources. The company has won many awards, including first place and the People's Choice award at the 2013University of California Davis Big Bang Business Plan Competition.

    Sacramento Business Journal: A passionate entrepreneur, Klein has spent his career working with entrepreneurial businesses in finance and technology. He co-founded Riskalyze in 2011, which now serves thousands of advisers managing $9 billion in client assets. The Auburn company was named in 2013 by Fast Company Magazine as one of the world's 10 most innovative companies in finance.

    Sacramento Business Journal: As an original employee at 5th Planet Games, Lease has helped build the company and the technology on which it relies. He has controlled all hiring, budgeting and the overall direction of employees involved in the tech process. He also created a program that enables employees to use a percentage of their work time to complete a "project of passion," resulting in a big portion of the company's success.

    Sacramento Business Journal: Aswani has more than 10 years of experience in the automotive industry, focused primarily on alternative fuels. Since joining SMUD in 2012, he has managed a $3 million grant with General Motors and worked with various regulatory agencies to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

    Sacramento Business Journal: Rocklin's 5th Planet Games on Thursday launched a new new game app that it hopes will be a hit. The company says "Curio Quest" had more than 15,000 downloads in the first couple of hours.

  • 21 Nov, 2014 ​Sacramento region adds 8,000 jobs, mostly in public sector

    Sacramento Business Journal: The four-county Sacramento region added 8,000 jobs in October, with gains mostly driven by public education and state government. Sacramento's unemployment rate was 6.6 percent, an amount unchanged from September, reported the state Employment Development Department on Friday.
